Goodies from Pennsylvania
I’m back from being out of commission all week. I spent the first few days of this week feeling extremely sick (and sorry for myself), and then spent the rest of the week catching up on life.
Alex’s mom sent him a box stuffed with amazing goodies from a small shop up in Pennsylvania.
That’s only a fraction of all the lovely jars she sent. Each item is more unique than the next — organic peach fruit spread, roasted garlic tomato chutney, pear cinnamon caramel sauce, black walnut and stone ground mustard dressing, sun dried tomato-stuffed olives.
Some of the sauces we’ll have to do a little research on to find out the best way to use them. I’ve never heard of port wine fig sauce before, but the label suggests serving it over goat cheese and crackers, using it as a topping for ice cream or cheesecake, or using it as a culinary sauce for duck, chicken or fish. I can’t wait to try it.
Alex’s dad and stepmom had us and my parents over for a wonderful party last weekend, and I sent them a card to thank them for a lovely time.
I have to admit I was rather ill when I made this card and then photographed it, so this is the first I’ve seen it with a clear head. I’m glad it turned out okay! (As usual, it was dark by the time I finished, so I had to take pictures of it under a yellow bulb. That’s why the coloring is a bit off.)
And I apologize to Andy and Diane if there are any glue-y finger smudges on it. My excuse is a stuffed head, a slight fever and two tablespoons of cold medicine. I’m wondering now if Alex should have let me use scissors that evening.
