Red polka-dot coasters

Decided to try out a new masthead that I designed. Hope you like it!

Tonight I made a set of coasters. I’m thrilled that I was able to use up the last scraps of my red polka-dot fabric (because I love that fabric) in a project that I’ll get tons of use out of.

I worked with fusible web for the first time. I’ve wanted to experiment with applique for quite some time and figured now was as good a time as any, especially since I wouldn’t be wasting too much time or fabric if I screwed the first one up too badly.

But it was relatively easy to use, and I like how these turned out. My head is swarming with ideas on how to incorporate applique into other projects.

Each coaster is 4″ x 4″ and has a layer of batting to protect the furniture from heat, cold and moisture. The leaf on the front matches the contrasting fabric on the back.

I’ve been itchin’ to create some autumn-inspired pieces. These coasters definitely lean in that direction.

I plan on making several sets as gifts, perhaps with matching bags to store them in. But I’m keeping these!

these are lovely, is the leaf pattern on top of the polka dot material? do you fuse the material on then cut out the shape and iron it on? You should do tutorial the next time you make some, I’d love to know how to make them.

Karyn – these are REALLY, REALLY pretty. What a great gift idea for a close family member 🙂 By the way, I loved Ellen’s comments about not being interested in crafts or cats but loving your blog! It IS fun to read and look at! xoxo
