New month, new bag
I designed and made a new bag today. I’m happy with the results even though it didn’t turn out anywhere close to how I imagined it in my head. Life is full of surprises, eh?
I designed it as part of a special order for my friend Chellie. We discussed my making a larger version of the Luna Satchel with a flat base, but when I sewed up a quick dummy version, it just looked….weird. So I straightened out the sides and made it longer, and it turned out like this.
In my head, the final bag is slouchier. Less geometric. This bag includes a removable plastic canvas base that gives the bottom of the bag extra support. It’s covered in the same fabric as the liner, so it blends right in. The bag holds its shape pretty well without the base, which is why I made it removable rather than sewing it in between the layers of fabric.
I’m actually very happy with the results, although I’m not sure if Chellie will like it, since it’s quite different than what we talked about. So Chellie, if you’re reading this, let me know what you think!
It’s been a great weekend so far. Alex and I have plans to go hiking tomorrow in Hillsborough River State Park. There are several beautiful, well-shaded, riverside paths that we can take. Note to self: bring bug spray!
